You know how when you were little you wanted something different every day. Well, I only wanted two things. One, concert tickets to go see Hannah Montana. Two, a computer.

Back in the olden days, technology was not as big of a deal. Only the rich, the wealthy, had a ‘computer’. You know that next door neighbor that always has what you want, the one that gets everything they want whenever they want. Well, my neighbor was my little cousin who owned hundreds of dolls and three different pools. Like who needs three pools! My cousin’s uncle, my uncle, owned one of these devices. So I used to go to his house, sat on his chair and watched him use his computer. I know, what a creep.

My father used to live here, in the U.S. while my sister, mother and I reside in the Dominican Republic. I used to talk to him every day through the phone. One time I asked him for a laptop. Being daddy’s little girl, he tried to please me as much as he could. I knew that my family only had money for what we needed and not for what we wanted, but I kept dreaming.

When my dad came to visit us he would always bring us a suitcase full of clothes, shoes, and toys. The last time he visited us before we came to live here, I remember seeing the big suitcase, the one with all our games. I approached the suitcase and I noticed this box. I took the box and I asked my dad what it was. He told me to open it, which I did. Guess what it was. A COMPUTER. I was screaming, and crying, all tears of joy. My sister and I opened the computer and started playing.

The computer was a simple computer. One that had different games from one to seventy-five. It did not run with internet. The screen was black and gray, and the computer was green. We spent the whole day playing until it turned off. The computer came with batteries and different sets of chips that you would insert it to the computer through its right side if you wanted to change the set.

Later on, in life, we found out that the computer was a kids computer. Not a real one. However, for me that computer was everything.

When we moved to the U.S. we started school right away. New school, new friends, you know the drill. Something I noticed right of the bat was that school here was/is no joke. The homework was unreal. #Toomuch. I remember how all my teachers advised my mother into getting us library cards, so that we can have access to the computers at the library. The majority of the homework we had to print them out or type it.

Every Saturday morning you will see the sister’s clan in the NYPL. One of my favorite things to do on the computer was play racing cars and this farm game. After we had printed our homework we would get reading books and head home. My reading obsession had emerged since then.

Time passed and my father had surprised us with an HP Desktop. When he finished setting it up with the guy from the computer company I ran up to him and gave him the biggest hug ever. I spent the whole night with my sister playing barbie games, dressing them, and doing their missions. I was only 10.

The next morning we had woken up at 10 am to play some more. Spent the whole afternoon there, till we had to go eat dinner. We ate and then went back to the computer. The next day the same thing happened.

Time passed and our computer started to get viruses, from all the games we used to play. It had become so slow that it took us literally 2 to 3 minutes to enter google. I was already tired of it. I graduated middle school.

Freshman year, I entered a phase where I wanted a laptop. I had become obsessed with the idea. My friend had just gotten hers and I wanted one. I told my family that for my birthday all I wanted was money to buy a laptop. They gave me money, but the laptop was around 800 dollars. Then they all talked to me, put sense into my head, and made me realize that I do not need a laptop right now. Time passed.

I graduated high school. I am working, working, working. I was saving for my MacBook Pro and my car. I am working with SYEP. I had set my mind into getting my laptop with the money I got from SYEP. I had already begun to save money for my car, with my cashiering job at a supermarket. I, later on, realized that I should get the laptop now with the money I had saved for the car, and the money I make from SYEP save it for my car. So I ended up buying the computer.

Monday 6, 2018 I was off the supermarket job. I decided to go buy my laptop with my mother and sister. I was so excited that I even went to the nail salon to get a mani and a pedi. I was like, “I am going to get my new baby, my nails better be looking on fleek.” After I got my nails done, I headed home to get my money and my mother. On the train ride, I was super excited, talking to my mother about my blog and life.

When we got to the Apple store it was packed with people. We headed to the computer table and there I tried out all the computers. I looked for someone to help me with my purchase. After the whole process was done, I went up to where the Apple Specialist were and they helped me set up my Mac. I also got my free beats because of the back to school special.

The ride back home was very excited too. I was holding my new baby for dear life. When I got home I showed my brother and my father my purchase. I activated my beats and started to jam to Ozuna. Later then I went to my room and finished editing my site.

I am very happy with my purchase. I love it. It is a great computer. The only part that wasn’t as great was that it was really expensive, but you know it was a great investment.
